The IP Law & Management Institute Heads East
Cascading waterfalls, bustling casino tables, a cornucopia of delicious food and drinks, and the constant buzz of conversation. These are the sights and sounds of last week’s Monday night dinner function at the 2023 IP Law & Management Institute that took place at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa in Bonita Springs, Florida.
Accompanying the beautifully staged and enjoyable networking opportunities, the event also showcased informational business meetings, and an abundance of relevant and engaging content in the form of main stage thought leadership sessions, smaller group think tank and roundtable discussions, as well as interactive and audience engaging panel presentations.
A range of relevant topic areas were discussed that touched on the critical aspects of IP leadership today, such as:
Generative AI and the Implications for Future IP
Participants gained insights into the uses and prevalence of Generative AI technologies as well as the legal implications in relation to copyright infringement, and ownership of AI-generated works.
Building and Leading an Effective IP Team
IP leaders explored the challenges of, and best practices for building a strong and effective IP team in the current talent market. Discussions surrounded elements of DEI and attracting diverse talent, workplace flexibility, and team culture.
Ethics in IP
The event also highlighted the importance of ethics in IP and uncovered some recurring problems and hidden traps that often trip up IP Leaders. Practical tips to reduce risk and uncertainty were also shared.
Trade Secret Protection
Chief IP Counsel examined the increase in trade secret protection in recent years and discussed updates in the law including the new PAIP Act, as well as practical tips for implementing, utilizing, and prioritizing trade secret policies.
Cultivating a Culture of Innovation
Executives dove into interactive discussions posing questions regarding what challenges they were facing in building a culture of innovation in their organizations and sharing best practices for motivating innovation and IP awareness.
